Youth Programming
Empowering, Supporting and Advocating for Children Impacted by Headache Disorders

At The Headache Alliance, we recognize the profound impact headache disorders can have on children and their families. Our youth programming is designed to empower young advocates, foster understanding, and create a supportive community for children living with headache disorders, siblings, and those whose parents are affected by these often disabling conditions.

Why Youth Programming Matters
Headache disorders are one of the leading causes of disability worldwide, and their effects often extend beyond the individual to impact entire families. Children living with these conditions or in families affected by them often face unique challenges, including stigma, isolation, and a lack of understanding from peers and educators. Our youth programming aims to:
- Empower children to understand and advocate for their needs.
- Foster resilience and confidence through shared experiences.
- Build a supportive community to reduce isolation and stigma.
What We Offer
Our youth programming, integrated into events like Headache on the Hill, includes:
- Workshops: Tailored sessions blending art, science, and civics education to help children understand their condition and express themselves creatively.
- Advocacy Training: Age-appropriate training to teach children how to share their stories and advocate for change in their communities and beyond.
- Community Connection: Opportunities to meet and connect with peers who understand what it’s like to live with or be impacted by headache disorders.
A Holistic Approach
We believe in supporting the whole family, recognizing that headache disorders affect more than just the patient. Our youth programming is designed to:
- Create a welcoming environment for children of all ages, from 4 to 17.
- Provide resources and tools to help families navigate the challenges of living with headache disorders.
- Include affinity groups and activities that reflect the diverse experiences of our participants.
Looking Ahead
With the success of our youth programming, we plan to expand its reach and impact. Future initiatives include developing a children’s book written by young advocates living with headache disorders and a corresponding curriculum for schools. These resources aim to educate, reduce stigma, and give children a voice in shaping the narrative around headache disorders.
Get Involved
Whether you are a parent, caregiver, educator, or supporter, we invite you to be part of this transformative program. Together, we can empower the next generation of advocates and build a brighter future for all those impacted by headache disorders.
